We sell custom non-prescription medicines specifically requested by customers or by practitioners on behalf of a patient. These custom medicines are typically higher dose than dietary supplements or are a specific combination of therapeutic ingredients. The customer or patient is typically wanting to treat a specific disease, illness or injury.

How do I order a customised medicine?

In requesting a customised medicine, you are explicitly using your judgement as to your treatment. You are not buying a ready-made medicine but are asking us to make a medicine to your requirements.

In requesting a customised medicine on behalf of a patient, we legally require the patient to be using their judgement in their treatment, obviously with your guidance.

What Can I Order?

We make customised medicines containing vitamins A, B1 to B12, C, D, E, K2, quercetin, zinc, magnesium, selenium, iron, iodine/iodide, and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). You are welcome to inquire about other active agents, chelated minerals, phytosomes of herbal extracts, or specific forms of vitamins, such as benfotiamine and P-5-P.

We provide many of these active agents in liposomal form, allowing higher and faster absorption and higher doses to be tolerated.

There are maximum daily doses that we are permitted to write on the label for vitamin A (3 mg retinol equivalent, 10,000 IU), vitamin D (25 micrograms, 1000 IU), selenium (150 micrograms) and zinc (25 mg). Above these daily doses, a medicine is legally classified as a prescription medicine, which we do not manufacture.

We do not expect you to provide us with every detail of the medicine that you are requesting; we can help you with the details. However, we suggest that you do some reading on the active ingredients (i.e., the vitamins and minerals), their effective doses for treating your condition, the side effects of their long-term high-dose use, and their co-factors (other nutrients that help them work).

We do not diagnose you or suggest a treatment plan. Instead we discuss how the medicinal ingredients work, the science and experience of clinicians and patients, and what we can put in a bottle.

Medicines versus Dietary Supplements

As you take more responsibility for your health, you will sometimes want to use vitamins, minerals and other natural therapeutics more as medicines (in higher doses for set periods) and less as dietary supplements (in lower doses continuously).

Many of the world's most effective and safest medicines are vitamins and other naturally occurring substances taken in high therapeutic doses. Your body has evolved mechanisms to use these substances effectively in treating and preventing a wide variety of disease.

You may not yet think of a vitamin or plant material as a medicine. We therefore make two points to give context.

(1) There is no material difference between a medicine and a dietary supplement. The only difference is the legislation under which they are made and sold.

Let's take the example of a bottle of liposomal vitamin C. If we sell the bottle as a dietary supplement, we are not permitted to state its therapeutic effects even if we can cite hundreds of studies that back that claim. Additionally, we are not permitted to recommend a daily intake of more than 2000 mg of vitamin C per day even if the consumer should be taking 10,000 mg per day when ill. In contrast, if we sell the bottle of liposomal vitamin C as a medicine, then we can state the appropriate dose and discuss the therapeutic benefits. The limitations placed on dietary supplements often have no logical basis and typically serve the interests of the pharmaceutical drug industry.

(2) The pharmaceutical drug industry is not as clever as it likes to portray. Typically, drug companies do not create medical compounds out of thin air. They look at plants or other natural materials that human experience has shown to be medicinally effective for hundreds or thousands of years and then extract components or make synthetic versions that they claim as patent-able drugs. Often, the natural material works more effectively than the patented drug. In the most cynical cases, health authorities then ban or limit the use of the natural material as a dietary supplement.

Learning to use the world's most effective and safe therapeutic substances as medicines is thus important to your well being.

Under section 32 of the Medicines Act 1981, Cellular Medicines sells non-prescription customised medicines that are (1) requested by customers who are using their own judgement as to their treatment or (2) requested by a practitioner who is supplying a patient who is using their own judgement as to their treatment. The point is that the person taking the medicine is assuming responsibility in treating their condition.
