Long-term medical diet & elimination diet
The following long-term medical diet is for those suffering chronic illness, pain or low energy. It is a low-inflammatory plan aimed at reducing factors that could potentially impact your health. It removes much of the toxicity found in the modern diet.
- It is a simple plan to follow if you concentrate on what you can eat or drink rather than on what you cannot have.
- If a food or drink is not mentioned, it is not part of the diet.
- Starting with a parasite cleanse will potentially prevent disappointment and see quicker results.
- An elimination diet based on this medical diet is described at the bottom of the page.
Meat
- Choose a variety of meats that you like; e.g., beef, lamb, chicken, pork and seafood.
- The meat must be unprocessed. This means that you are buying raw meat. Frozen meat is fine.
- Include organ meat (liver, kidneys) if you can stomach it.
- Animal fat is required for health. Do not avoid fatty meats or trim the fat.
- Cook meat using beef fat, butter, ghee, or coconut oil.
- Once meat is cooked, you can add olive oil, salt, lemon juice or homemade mayonnaise (comprising egg, olive oil, salt and lemon juice).
- Do not add sauces, mustard or gravy.
- Do not consume meat products that contain flavouring, marinades, flour, sugar, preservatives or additives.
- This means no sausages, pies, deli meats, cold cuts, salami, prosciutto, ham, luncheon, beef jerky, smoked meat or premade burger patties.
Vegetables
- Buy vegetables that are in season.
- Eat vegetables in their natural form. Frozen vegetables are fine.
- Do not consume vegetables that come in cans, jars or packets (as they contain preservatives and potentially toxins).
- Avoid starchy vegetables, such as potatoes, kumara and corn, if you want to lose weight.
- Some people with autoimmune diseases (like rheumatoid arthritis) need to avoid nightshades, such as potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants and capsicums (peppers), as they can cause joint pain and gut irritation.
Beans
- No beans unless you are vegetarian or wanting a less expensive alternative to meat. Meat is less problematic than beans.
- The least harmful options are black beans, black-eyed peas, cannelloni beans, chick peas, adzuki beans and lentils.
- Always soak beans overnight before use.
Fruit
- Fruit should be eaten in moderation as it is not the same as fruit that was eaten a couple of generations ago. Today's fruit contains less nutrition, contains more sugar, is stored for long periods and is sprayed. Fruit should not be a meal.
- Picking fruit from your own trees or from your neighbour's trees is best.
- No berries unless they are organic or homegrown, as they are the most heavily sprayed fruit.
- No dried fruit.
- No fruit juice.
Dairy & Dairy Alternatives
- High-fat dairy options are permissible if they do not cause problems. This includes butter, ghee, cheese and whole-fat, unsweetened and unflavoured yoghurt.
- No milk or foods containing milk. This includes no cheese.
- No soy milk, oat milk, almond milk or other milk alternative. The exception is coconut milk.
- No margarine, olive spread or other butter alternative.
Nuts
- Nuts should be eaten in moderation (a maximum of a small handful a day) and only if they do not cause problems.
- Nuts need to be boring nuts, not flavoured or salted.
- Nuts are prone to carrying mould. Buy small amounts and store them in the fridge.
- Avoid cashews if wanting to lose weight.
- No peanuts, as they are particularly prone to mould.
Eggs
- Eat an unlimited number of eggs. They are one of your main food options,
- The majority of the nutrition is in the yolk. The egg white is an allergen for many people.
Herbs, Spices, Ginger and Garlic
- Herbs are great but they must be homegrown or unsprayed.
- Do not use dried herbs.
- It is highly advisable to have your own herb garden.
- Garlic and ginger must be in their natural form and not powdered.
- No spices.
Grains
- Generally speaking, no grains. Grains are heavily sprayed, poorly digested, cause inflammation and are not essential for health. Grains make people fat, which contributes to their health problems.
- That means no bread, crackers, biscuits, cereal, pasta, bakery goods or anything with wheat or corn listed as an ingredient.
- If you are committed to sprouting your organic seeds, then fine.
- If you are going to break this rule, then eating white rice is the least harmful option.
Oils
- Coconut oil, butter, and ghee are good for cooking. You can add olive oil to a meal before eating.
- No seed oils. This means no canola oil, soy oil, peanut oil or vegetable oil.
Soup
- Do not use commercial stock in soups.
Drinks
- Your main water source must be filtered. In particular, you must eliminate fluoride, which is a neurotoxin, and chlorine and chloramine, which are antibacterial agents that will affect your gut microbiome.
- Lemon or lime water is good.
- Tea should be organic to ensure it has not been heavily sprayed.
- Coffee is fine. No milk as we want to avoid dairy. A small amount of cream is potentially ok.
- No fruit juice, diet drinks, energy drinks, milk, or drinks containing sugar, artificial sweeteners, or 'natural' sweeteners such as stevia erythritol.
Breakfast
- The concept of breakfast foods is a modern invention. The body does not require different foods at different times of the day.
- There is no basis for saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is pure invention.
- As we are avoiding cereal and bread, you might want to get into the habit of cooking extra dinner so that you have leftovers for breakfast.
- If you are adopting intermittent fasting, breakfast is a good meal to skip.
Protein
- Eat protein (in the form of meat, eggs or beans) in every meal to avoid temptations to fold between meals.
Eating Out versus Making Food at Home
- All cafes, restaurants, food courts and fast food stores use vegetable oils and processed ingredients. You cannot eat out. You need to transition to making food at home and taking your lunch to work. Cafes are for tea and coffee.
Elimination diet
The following elimination diet is for those suffering chronic illness, pain or low energy. The purpose of the diet is to find what foods you are reacting badly to and causing your chronic problem.
- Choose three foods that are permitted in the above medical diet. For instance, you might choose steak, carrots and peas.
- Eat only these three foods for three days.
- You may also have salt, butter/ghee, lemon juice, and black coffee, as these are unlikely to be inflammatory.
- After three days, you may introduce one other food from the medical diet. Eat only the four foods for a period of three days.
- Every three days, you introduce one more food. Introduce a series of foods from the medical diet before trying your luck with foods outside the medical diet.
- Keep a diary of what you have eaten. How you are feeling today largely relates to what you ate yesterday.
- In this way, you discover what foods are causing inflammation and pain.
- Obviously, stop eating any food you have a problem with.
- You can largely ignore the results of allergy tests. A negative allergy skin test does not mean that your body is handling a particular food well.
